Parkland College

Mass Communication: Radio-TV/Video

Program Code: FMCB AAS

Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.)
Minimum graduation requirement — 60 semester hours

The Radio-TV/Video program prepares students for employment in small and medium market radio and TV stations. Because broadcasting personnel must perform a variety of duties, this program stresses versatility. Speech courses offer students experience in live-audience and recorded speaking. Advertising and journalism courses involve students in other aspects of the communication industry. Students can pursue a Radio-TV production-oriented track or a track in Integrated Media Communication, which emphasizes public relations, sales, and promotion. Students polish their skills by operating WPCD-FM, Parkland’s 10,500-watt educational radio station and filling production crew positions at PCTV, the college’s educational cable access channel.

Program Notes*
• Radio-TV production track students must complete a 250-hour studio sequence to complete the A.A.S. degree requirement.
• Enrollment in COM 292 requires faculty committee approval, a program GPA of 3.0, and sophomore standing. Radio-TV production track students take a total of 6 credit hours of internship.
• PSY 101 is highly recommended for students in the Integrated Media Communication track.
