Policies for Employers

The Career Center reserves the right to refuse services to employers due to any of the following:  dishonesty; breach of confidentiality; fraud; misrepresentation; harassment of Parkland students, alumni, or staff; failure to adhere to these Career Center policies; and/or any other violation of Parkland College rules and regulations.

Job Listings

Large and small businesses, government and non-profit organizations offering full-time, part-time, seasonal jobs, and internships may register and list employment opportunities (at no cost) with our CCN job-listing/resume posting service. Only registered employers will be able to view alumni and student’s resumes online.

  • Jobs that are located at an individual’s place of residence will not be posted
  • Employment opportunities in which the student is not paid for their work or training, or if compensation is in the form of straight commission only, will not be listed or promoted through the Career Center
  • Internship inquiries and opportunities will be directed to the Career Center director and/or the appropriate academic department

Campus Recruitment

Employers are invited to recruit on campus throughout the year and should register through the Career Center (217/351-2536) to schedule on-campus recruitment days. Recruiting days are limited to two days/month for each company, unless other arrangements have been made with the Career Center director. Company representatives will remain next to or behind their assigned tables while recruiting in the college.

Employer representatives visiting Parkland are expected to comply with all federal and state Equal Employment Opportunity regulations in their recruitment and hiring practices. Consideration should be afforded to all candidates without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.

Job Fairs

Selected employers invited to participate in our job fairs will mirror the educational programs that Parkland offers, as well as reflect the employment needs of our students and alumni. Companies offering bona fide (salaried, not 100% commission) full-time, part-time, and seasonal job opportunities and internships may register for job fair participation.

Third-Party Recruiters

Third-party recruiters are defined as agencies, firms, or individuals recruiting candidates for temporary, part-time, or full-time employment with other companies or individuals. The Career Center will provide assistance to third-party agencies only when a third-party recruiter meets the following conditions:

  • Reveals the identity of the employer being represented and the types of positions for which the third party is recruiting, and permits the Career Center to verify this information by contacting the named client
  • Identifies on all announcements and to all job candidates the name of the employer being represented
  • Charges no fees to the candidate
  • Does not disclose to any employer, in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, any student information without obtaining prior written consent from the student. Re-disclosure of candidate information is not permitted.
  • Complies with all federal and state Equal Employment Opportunity standards

Temporary Agencies

Temporary agencies are organizations that contract to provide individuals qualified to perform specific tasks or complete specific projects for a client organization.  Individuals perform work at the client organization, but are employed and paid by the temp. agency.  The Career Center will post temporary positions but will not post ‘permanent placement’ positions on our job boards.

Network Marketing Companies

Network marketing companies not considered to be the employer (by themselves or the Career Center) will not be eligible to participate in career fairs, on-campus interviewing, employer presentations or job postings. Parkland’s Career Center considers organizations that engage in the following to be network marketing companies:

  • Sponsoring an individual to set up his/her own business for the purpose of selling products or services and/or recruiting other individuals to set up their own business; and/or
  • Requiring an initial investment or deposit from this individual, with the organization itself serving as an umbrella or parent corporation. The initial investment may be direct payment of a fixed fee, payment to attend an orientation or training session, and/or purchase of a starter kit.
