Industrial Energy Efficiency
In two instructional sessions, Todd Rusk and Riyaz Shipchandler will present a practical introduction to industrial energy efficiency. Participants will be able to identify common opportunities for reducing electricity and natural gas usage and to calculate the associated energy and cost savings. Explore the opportunities for improvement in your work place with a energy assessment assignment prior to the second session. Assignment requirements: gather at least 12 months of your workplace energy utility bills.
Specific topics include:
- Power and energy basics
- Understanding energy utility bills
- Intro to energy auditing
- Common energy efficiency opportunities and savings calculations, motor-driven systems, compressed air, boiler/steam systems, process heating, lighting, HVAC
- Energy assessment assignment: analyze 12 months or more of your workplace’s energy utility bills, conduct a preliminary assessment to identify potential energy efficiency opportunities, and present your findings on the second day.

Green Industrial Performance through Waste Minimization
Improve your industrial competitiveness through better materials use. Tim Lindsey will show you how to identify process losses and potential efficiency improvements in packaging, industrial parts and facilities cleaning, fluids purification, water use minimization and purification, and construction activities. Specific topics include best practices and technologies to improve performance through waste minimization, pollution prevention, recycling, green process development, activity based cost accounting and improving the value of by-products.

Save money and improve your organization's environmental performance through green business practices! Specific topics include: greening the office, green purchasing, activity based cost accounting, greening the supply chain, recycling, and green cleaning/janitorial practices. Intensive LEED AP Exam Preparation Course for LEED-NC 2.2 (Hybrid) |
Parkland College Business Training in cooperation with Illinois State University (ISU) are offering certificate training specifically designed to help professionals successfully take the LEED AP exam and achieve highest understanding of the current LEED green building requirements and processes. The target audience includes: contractors/ subcontractors, architects, facility managers, building owners, city officials, and community members who want to become LEED-accredited and sustainability-oriented professionals and consumers to enhance the sustainability of their projects. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a market-driven green building rating system developed and managed by US Green Building Council (USGBC) to support the widespread adoption of sustainable design and construction through its certification process. LEED Accredited Professionals (AP) are individuals who play a critical role in bridging the green building providers and consumers by participating in the green design process, supporting integrated design, and streamlining the LEED certification process.

This course offers two instructor-led sessions to provide participants with a quick start on the exam preparation process. In addition, six online modules are offered to complement the in-class meetings and deepen technical understanding of the LEED standards, credits, and requirements. Participants receive a Certificate of Completion from Illinois State University.
Online modules include materials and exercises pertaining to sustainable sites. Exam Preparation topics include: knowledge of credit intents/requirements, project and team coordination, LEED process implementation, technical analysis for LEED credits as well as the specific topics covered during each module.
The LEED New Construction v2.2 Reference Guide Third Edition may be purchased but is not required.
Week 1: LEED AP Exam Guide and the LEED Rating System and Study Guide

Join Dr. Borinara Park as he discusses the LEED AP Exam Guide including candidate qualifications; exam tracks, structure, content, and format; time requirements and commitment level; exam specifications; and exam procedure, registration, and scheduling. In addition, review the LEED Rating System and Study Guide, specifically, resources and references; LEED-NC rating system: prerequisites, credits, and certification; LEED registration and certification process; CIR (Credit Interpretation Rulings); and documentation and submittals.
