The Hotel/Motel Manager
If you enjoy intensive customer contact, are a quick and calm problem solver,
and can appreciate the needs and demands of travelers, you may be well rewarded
in a hotel/motel management career. Hotel/motel managers are skilled planners,
organizers, and supervisors. They may be called upon to provide information
and handle difficulties for vacationing travelers of all ages and business
people from around the world. Marketing and computer know-how will also serve
you well in this career.
Parkland’s certified program
The hospitality program at Parkland College is taught in conjunction with the
National Restaurant Education Foundation Certification Pro-Management program
as well as the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Motel Association.
The Parkland College Hospitality program is certified by CHRIE (Council on
Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education.)
The Parkland program
Parkland’s internationally accredited hospitality management programs
prepare individuals for management-track positions. Students with the A.A.S.
degree readily step into management-trainee positions. Certificate students
may begin at entry level, but normally earn promotions quickly. Both programs
incorporate a 320-hour work experience in a hotel setting. |

Certifications and scholarships
Students earn certificates from the American Hotel and Motel Association for
course completion, and may apply for Association-sponsored scholarships.Length
of studyFull-time students can earn their degree in two years, or the certificate
in one year. The program director will advise part-time students as to the
appropriate course load for their needs.
