Several articulation agreements exist for A.A.S., graduates, allowing direct transfer into a bachelor’s degree at various universities in Illinois and other states.
Employment opportunities
The racing and showing industry are employers of graduates. Many positions are in related fields, including equipment sales and promotion. Other careers include state horse specialist, ranch or barn manager, transporter, auctioneer, breeding manager, and equine veterinarian assistant.
Job outlook
Employment potential for competent and educated equine
managers is good. Most opportunities require relocation.
Earning potential
Entry-level salaries for equine management positions
range up to $19,000 and often include housing valued up to $9,000 a year.
Free board for horses and profit-sharing incentives are often part of the
negotiation process. Salaries or hourly wages and benefits for entry-level
certificate holders are more modest, but with experience and education,
there is potential for advancement.
Career advancement
Career advancement can be achieved by the development
of a reputation for excellent work and results. Greater experience and
further education can mean more specialization and advancement. Advancement
opportunities in the equine industry depend largely on individual skill
and the development of professional contacts.
