Karrie Redeker begins her 5th season at the helm for the Parkland Cobras after having a very successful 2010-11 season. The Cobras grabbed their third consecutive Region 24 championship, made their third trip to the NJCAA Division II Nationals earning 3rd place (the highest finish in school history), and had a 34-3 record (most victories in school history). Redeker and her staff have turned Parkland into a national power in just four years with PC recording a 6th place national finish in 2009-10, 4th place national finish in 2008-09 and sporting a 114-26 overall record during their tenure.

In the record-setting 2010-11 season, the Cobras used unselfish play, sophomore leadership, and stellar defense to compile an impressive season resume. The Cobras were undefeated against Region 24 and M-WAC conference teams, posted an impressive win against Division I Junior College power Central Arizona in late December, knocked off #1 ranked Kankakee in mid-February, entered the Region 24 tourney as the #1 seed and earned a “three-peat” as Region 24 Champions. Parkland then entered the NJCAA Division II National Tournament as a #3 seed with a 31-2 record and a 20-game winning streak. At Nationals, the Cobras went 3-1 with their only loss at the hands of the eventual National Champions, Monroe College (NY).

The Cobras ended their amazing 2010-11 season with a victory over Iowa Central to earn a 3rd place finish. Sophomore Hannah Ohl earned 1st team NJCAA All-American honors while Redeker was named the Region L Coach of the Year, IBCA NJCAA Coach of the Year and M-WAC and Region 24 Coach of the Year.

Redeker was also named the Region L Coach of the Year and IBCA NJCAA Coach of the Year for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. Under her direction, two other players have earned NJCAA All-American honors; Heidi McKean (2nd team) in 2008-09, and Ashley Timmerman (3rd team) in 2009-10. Redeker has helped several players move on to 4-year schools:

· Rani Brandon – Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (D-1)
· Hannah Ohl – University of South Carolina Upstate (D-1)
· Ashley Timmerman – Valparaiso University (D-1)
· Cassandra Deiters and Heidi McKean – Upper Iowa University (D-2)
· Cristina Nevins – University of Illinois at Springfield (D-2)
· Jessi Beachey and Jessy Young – Iowa Wesleyan (NAIA)
· Stephanie Denius – Olivet Nazarene University (NAIA)
· Ashley Lillard – Union University (NAIA)
· Traci Osby – Robert Morris College (NAIA)
· Chelsea Prosser and Lauren Taylor – Missouri Baptist (NAIA)
· Heather Pruemer – Millikin University (D-3)

Prior to coaching at PC, Redeker was the girls’ basketball coach at Unity High School in Tolono from 1999-2007, where the Rockets compiled a 158-62 record and won five regional titles. Redeker played collegiately at Southern Illinois-Carbondale where she was a four-year letter winner. During her time at SIUC, she helped lead the Salukis to a Gateway Conference Title and two NCAA appearances. Redeker was an Honorable Mention All-Gateway Conference selection in 1992 and is the career leader in 3-pointers made at SIUC. She grew up in rural Crescent City, where she is the all-time leading scorer for boys and girls at Crescent-Iroquois High School. She was inducted into the IBCA Hall of Fame in 2005 for her playing career.

Coach Redeker currently teaches fifth grade at Unity West Elementary School in Tolono and earned a master’s degree in educational administration from EIU in December of 2007.
