Lynx end Cobra Men's Soccer season
The Parkland Men's Soccer season ended on Saturday with a 5-1 loss to Lincoln. The defeat marked the fourth consecutive season that Lincoln eliminated Parkland from post-season competition. The Cobras started the match strong but did not handle two blocks of time in both the first and second halves. Lincoln scored in the 31st and 32nd minutes of the opening half to take a 2-0 lead into the break. Any chance of a Cobra rally ended quickly as the second half started poorly for Parkland and Lincoln scored in the 47th and 48th minute. Parkland pulled one back in the 54th minute as Igor Guanaes scored. An apparent PC penalty shot was waved off later in the half due to an offsides violation and the Cobras failed to score for the remainder of the match. Lincoln scored a final goal in the 88th minute to complete the scoring.
With the loss Parkland ends the year with an 8-7-2 record while Lincoln moves on to the semi-finals where they will face off against ICC on Wednesday in East Peoria. The top-seeded Cougars shutout DACC 3-0 on Saturday. Lewis and Clark will host Lincoln Land in the other semi-final. L&C and Heartland played to a 2-2 tie after two overtimes before the Blazers clipped the Hawks 4-1 on penalty kicks to advance. LLCC doubled up SWIC 4-2 in the final quarterfinal match.

Men's Soccer to wrap up regular season
The Men's soccer team will hope to build some momentum for the post season when they play the UI Club Team at 5:30 on Thursday at Centennial High School. It's the last game of the regular season for the Cobras (8-6-1). They are coming off an inspiring 4-2 win over Lincoln Land last Saturday. Parkland is the #5 seed for the upcoming Region 24 Tournament and will open at Lincoln College at noon on Saturday. The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie when they met in Champaign back on September 22nd.
PC takes out Lincoln Land in Men's Soccer action
The Parkland Men's Soccer team picked up an impressive win on Saturday knocking off Lincoln Land 4-2 in Springfield. Although the victory did not effect the Cobras seeding for the Region 24 tournament, the loss dropped the host Loggers from the top seed down to the #3 spot.
After Lincoln Land would take a 1-0 lead at the 35 minute mark, PC answered back to tie it with just 56 seconds left in the half when Clayton Cottle put away a cross from Alonso Torres. The Cobras would grab their first lead of the day at the 72 minute mark when Igor Guanaes scored on an assist from Jesus Morales. Morales would then score a goal of his own with 10 minutes left and Torres made it 4-1 with another goal just three minutes later. LLCC was given a penalty kick and converted on the opportunity in the final seconds to make it the final 4-2 score.
Parkland (8-6-1) will wrap up the regular season on Thursday when they play the UI Club team at 5:30 at Champaign Centennial High School. The Cobras will begin Region 24 play next Saturday at noon when they travel to Lincoln College.
Parkland Men blank DACC
The Parkland Men's Soccer team battled rival Danville Area CC on Tuesday afternoon in Champaign and the Cobras struck late for a 2-0 win over the visiting Jaguars. Strong westerly winds put scoring opportunities at a premium for the two teams as neither squad could get on the board in the opening half.
The second half was much the same until the Cobras were finally able to break the tie. Mike Severino's corner kick bounced around near the goal before Ben Flodstrom's bicycle kick found the back of the net at the 75 minute mark. Just eight minutes later, Jesus Morales took a quick free kick catching the DACC goalie off guard for a 2-0 lead.
The win moves the Cobras to (7-6-1) on the year and they will play their final Region 24 game of the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Springfield to take on Lincoln Land. The Loggers are the current M-WAC and Region 24 leader and will be hoping to nail down the top-seed in the upcoming Region 24 tournament.
Men Drop 2-1 Decision to Lewis and Clark
Despite holding a slight edge in shots and corner kicks, the Men dropped their match to the Blazers. Parkland opened the scoring in the 6th minute with an assist from Mike Severino (Springfield) to Kanye Sayon (Champaign Central). The game remained relatively even until Lewis and Clark earned a penalty kick in the 60th minute that was converted by # 9 (Didrik Rinde Lillehammer, Norway). Lewis and Clark then scored the winning goal in the 75th minutes on a strong individual effort from #18 (Tayna Chiappparro - Sao Paolo, Brazil). The loss drops Parkland to 6-6-1, 3-2-1 in region and they will take on Danville Area on Tuesday October 8, 4 pm at Parkland.
Men's Soccer blanks Kaskaskia
The Parkland Men's Soccer team traveled south to Kaskaskia on Tuesday and came home with a 5-0 win over the host Blue Devils. After a slow start, PC would get on the board just after the midway part of the opening half as Igor Guanaes scored with an assist to Kanyea Sayton. Just six minutes later, at the 31 minute mark, Sayon would score a goal of his own on an assist from Clayton Cottle.
The Cobras would take that 2-0 lead into the break and the score would remain that way until Daniel Vargas would score the first of his two goals on a feed from Jose Mendoza. Vargas would score again in the 81st minute, converting on a rare assist from goalkeeper Yuri Marcos. Mendoza would score the final goal of the match in the final minute of the match on an assist from Blake Gibbons. Parkland improves to (6-5-1) over-all and (3-1-1) in Region 24 and will travel to Lewis and Clark on Saturday for another important regional game.
ICC beats Parkland Men's Soccer 2-1 in wild finish
For almost 88 minutes on Saturday, Parkland and ICC battled back and forth with neither team being able to score a goal. Finally, the Cobras broke the tie with just over two minutes remaining when Igor Guanaes scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from Alonso Torres. With victory in their grasp, things got crazy, as PC was called for two fouls and ICC was awarded two penalty kicks in the span of less that a minute. ICC's Amara Soumah calmly stepped up and converted on both of the shots to give the Cougars the stunning win. The win propels ICC (7-2-1 4-1) into 2nd place in Region 24 while Parkland falls to (5-5-1 2-1-1) dropping them to 5th place. Next up for the Cobras will be a road trip to Kaskaskia on Tuesday October 2nd.
Sayon and Morales each score three times in Men's Soccer rout of Greenville JV
The Parkland Men's Soccer team received three goals each from Kanyea Sayon and Jesus Morales as the Cobras cruised to a 7-1 rout of the visiting Greenville College JV. After a scoreless first 35 minutes, PC would score three times in the final 9 plus minutes of the half. Sayon scored an unassisted goal to open the scoring and followed up with a second goal on an assist from Michael Severino. With just a minute left until intermission, Morales would score an unassisted goal to make it 3-0 at the break.
In the second half Morales connected on his second goal off an assist from Clay Cottle and just three minutes later Sayon picked up his third goal off a pass from Felipe Mattar. The Tigers would score their lone goal of the game on a floater just out of the reach of the Cobra goalie to make it 5-1 with 20 minutes remaining. Morales hooked up with Elias Salgado to score his third goal of the match before Jose Mendoza wrapped up the scoring with a goal on an assist from Leonardo Gill.
The win moves PC over .500 for the first time this season at (5-4-1) ahead of a key M-WAC and Region 24 match this Saturday at Illinois Central College in East Peoria.
Cobra Men battle to tie with Lincoln College
The Parkland Men's Soccer team battled both Lincoln College and a strong northwest win on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 0-0 double overtime tie with the Lynx. After an uneventful first half which saw only one shot on goal, things picked up in the 2nd half with both teams having chances to score. Goalkeepers Yuri Marcos (PC) and German Ellington (Linc) kept the opposition out of the net as the Lynx out shot the host Cobras 10-6 on the day.
After a scoreless regulation, neither team could score in either of the ten minute overtime periods and had to settle for the tie. PC played a man down for half of the first overtime and all of the second after Ben Flodstrom received his second yellow of the match resulting in an automatic ejection.
The tie leaves Parkland at 4-4-1 over-all and 1-0-1 in the M-WAC while Lincoln is now 8-2-1 over-all and 1-1-1 in conference. Cobras. PC will take on the Greenville College JV at 4:00 Tuesday in Champaign.
Flodstrom leads Cobras past rival Hawks
The Parkland Men's Soccer team rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to beat the rival Heartland Hawks 3-1 Sunday in M-WAC action from Bloomington. HCC's Nolan Ryearson scored in the last minute of the first half to give the host team the one goal lead at the break. PC would answer back early in the 2nd half as Igor Guanaes headed in a corner kick from Jesus Morales to tie the match.
In the 60th minute, Ben Flodstrom earned himself a penalty kick that he shot past the Hawk goalie to put the Cobras up 1. Flodstrom would also score the final for PC on an unassisted run to beat the HCC defenders and goalkeeper to make it the final score of 3-1. The win moves PC to (3-4 1-0) on the year but more importantly a perfect 2-0 in the Region. Next up will be a non-conference class at Kishwaukee CC on Tuesday in Malta.
Men's Soccer picks up second win of season
The Parkland Men's Soccer team picked up their second win of the season on Sunday as they defeated Marygrove College of Michigan 2-1. PC went 1-1 on their weekend trip to Michigan and now stand (2-4) on the season.
PC scored first when Clayton Cottle was fouled in the box and the Cobras were awarded a penalty in the 33rd minute of the match. The penalty kick was put away by Igor Guanaes to give PC a 1-0 lead. PC retained their one goal lead until the 65 minute mark when Marygrove tied the contest with a goal of their own. With just four minutes remaining in the match, Ben Flodstrom scored the game winner on a pass from Guanaes.
PC will take a week off before opening M-WAC play on Sunday September 16 @ Heartland CC.
Men remain winless as they fall to Kankakee
The Parkland Men continued a disturbing trend of controlling the game but not the scoreboard as they fell to Kankakee CC 2-1 in their second match of the 2nd Annual Labor Day/Kick for the Cure Classic. The Cavaliers grabbed the early lead on an outstanding shot midway thru the opening half and took that 1-0 lead into the break. PC would tie the match just 3:48 into the second half when Igor Guanaes found the back of the net to make it 1-1. A bit of misfortune followed the Cobras as PC was called for a controversial foul and the Cavs shot got by the wall of Cobra defenders and deflected into the right side of the net for the eventual game winner. The Cobras had several good chances to tie the match over the final 20 minutes but could not connect. The win moves KCC to (3-0-1) on the year while PC drops to (0-3). Parkland will play their first Region 24 match of the season when they host Southwestern Illinois College at 4:00 on Wednesday. The Blue Storm are currently (3-0) ahead of a Tuesday home game against

The Cobras controlled the tempo early but CSCC would strike for two goals midway thru the first half and took a 2-0 lead into intermission. Parkland's Jesus Morales connected on a goal with an assist to Kanyea Sayon with just under 20 minutes remaining in the match but PC could not score again, falling 2-1.
