Men Hold Off ICC
The Cobras would hold off ICC for a 88-84 win on Wednesday night. ICC would score the opening bucket of the game PC ripped off eleven straight points, seven by Sean Montgomery to grab an early 11-2 lead. The Cobras would hold a 6-10 point lead for most of the half as Montgomery scored 19 points in the opening stanza, and PC took a 43-37 lead to intermission. ICC kept the game close by knocking down 7-8 shots from behind the arc.
Parkland would stretch that lead to as many as 14 in the second half before the Cougars mounted a furious rally. ICC would claw to within one at 70-69 with 7:31 remaining before Charles Glass would score seven consecutive points to give PC a 80-75 lead with just under 4 minutes left. ICC would again get to within 1 but Johnson's rebound bucket made it 82-79 and Tiger O'Neil's thunderous dunk on an ally-oop from Glass put PC back up by 5 and the Cobras hung on for the win. In addition to Johnson's big night, Montgomery finished with 21 and Glass, O'Neil, and Cody McCollum all finished with 9 points. The Cobras shot 54% from the field and 79% from the line in the win. ICC was led by Tyler Bell who had 20 points on 6-8 shooting from 3 and Kenny Jones who had 18.
The win moves PC to (13-10 2-3) while ICC falls to (8-14 3-2). PC hosts Lincoln Land at 4:00 on Hall of Fame Saturday.
Jaguars down Cobras in M-WAC showdown
The Parkland Cobra Men's team followed up the women's game with a slow start of their own and found themselves down 31-11 to open the game and could never recover as the Cobras fell 66-62 in Danville on Saturday afternoon. Despite the early deficit, Parkland was able to go on a run of their own and close the gap to 7 at halftime. Parkland shot only 32% from the field in the first half and had their two starting forwards on the bench in foul trouble.
The second half would start with a play that would foreshadow the rest of the game. Parkland showed a defensive readiness to start the second half, but immediately suffered a setback when an offensive rebound by DACC's Tony Tolliver lead to a 3-pointer by Brandon Demmings. The Cobras continued to scratch and claw at the lead and eventually tied things up midway through the second half. As the second half wound down, it would come down to defensive stops and rebounds. Unfortunately, Parkland came up short on both. Tony Tolliver came down with another momentum-killing, offensive rebound late in the second half to earn DACC another possession. Brandon Demmings took advantage and finished with a baseline running bank shot. Despite poor shooting, Parkland still had a chance to tie and send the game into overtime. Down 3 with 16 seconds to go, Charles Glass took a deep 3-pointer, and once again, DACC came up with the rebound on the miss to seal up the victory.
Parkland (12-10, 1-3) will return home for seven consecutive games in the month of February. The Cobras will host the Cougars of Illinois Central (8-13 3-1) on Wednesday at 7:30pm followed by a game against Lincoln Land Community College on Saturday at 4pm, which will include the induction of the 2012 Hall of Fame Class at halftime.
#13 Lincoln uses second half surge to put away Cobras
For the second straight weekend the Parkland Men's Basketball team hit the road to take on a nationally-ranked foe and unfortunately the outcome followed the same script as the Cobras fell to #13 Lincoln 88-70. Much like their lost last Saturday to #3 John Wood, the Cobras surrendered another second half lead. The first 20 minutes was a back and forth, hard fought contest which saw several lead changes that left the Cobras trailing by just one at the half.
After the break, Parkland took their last lead of the game at (44-43) with 13:08 remaining before Lincoln closed out the game with an incredible 45-26 run. The Lynx controlled the boards as Lincoln out rebounded the Cobras 58-30 for the game, and used their aggressiveness to shoot 41 free throws, 18 more then the Cobras. Parkland finished with two players in double figures, Shaq Lowery had 18 and Cody McCollum scored 15. With the loss the Cobras fall to (12-9 and 1-2 in M-WAC play) while Lincoln improves to (17-4 3-0). Next up for PC will be a road trip next Saturday to face the Jaguars in Danville.
PC Men lose battle at #3 John Wood
The Parkland men's basketball team faced a tough challenge heading to #3 John Wood on Saturday and fell short on a couple last second chances, falling by the scoring of 74-71. This was a typical M-WAC contest that saw two teams battling it out every possession. The lead would change hands several times and the momentum would shift throughout the game. The Blazers of John Wood would sprint out to an early first half lead behind sophomore Regan Bruenger and his 13 first half points. As was the story for the entire game, Parkland would battle back, rallying from a 20-11 deficit to even the score. The Blazers shot a sizzling 63% in the first half including 6-10 from the 3 point line, but only went into halftime with a 38-34 lead.
In the second half, it would be Parkland's turn to shift the momentum. Midway through the second half, the Cobras managed to grab the lead and extend it to as many as 5 points. Just when Parkland was able to get some defensive stops to lead to some easy baskets, John Wood came back with a 7-0 run of their own. With under a minute to play and Parkland trailing by 4, Shaq Lowery grabbed the ball in transition and pulled up for his one and only 3-pointer of the game, cutting the lead to 1. A foul and two free throws at the other end pushed the lead back to 3. After Parkland's final timeout, the Cobras were able to get two good looks at a 3-pointer to tie, one from sophomore Sean Montgomery, and an in-bounds play to Cody McCollum that both rimmed out. Charles Glass last attempt as time expired was no good.
John Wood had four players reach double figures. Regan Bruenger finished with a game high 22 points. Antonio Landers was right behind him with 19 while Porter A'Darius finished with 14. James Lane finished with a double double at 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Parkland had 6 players finish between 8 and 15 points. Shaq Lowery finished with 15 points, while Charles Glass and Sean Montgomery added 13 and 10 respectively.
Up next for Parkland (12-8, 1-1) will be another M-WAC road game heading to Lincoln College next Saturday for a 4pm tip-off.
PC Men hold on for win at Lincoln Land
Shaq Lowery hit a big three-point basket with just 47 seconds to play to give the Cobras the cushion they needed as the Cobras held on for a hard fought 66-62 win over Lincoln Land in the M-WAC opener for both teams. Lincoln Land cut the margin to three late and had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds but the shot came up short and PC made 1-2 free throws to seal the win.
Lowery finished with 11 points and was part of a balanced attack that saw four players in double figures. Cody McCollum finished with a game high 12, Sean Montgomery added 11, and Charles Glass came off the bench to score 10. Jamel Johnson just missed a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds on the night.
The win moves PC to (12-7 1-0) while the Loggers fall to (8-9 0-1). The road gets even tougher on Saturday as Parkland travel to play in Quincy vs #3 John Wood (15-2 0-0).
Fast start leads Cobra Men to win over Rose-Hulman JV
The Parkland Men's Basketball shot 67% in the first half and overcame a cold shooting second half as they beat the Rose Hulman JV 76-61 at Parkland on Monday night. The game was a tale of two halves as the Cobras were sizzling in the opening 20 minutes making 20-30 shots from the field and building a 50-26 lead at the break. The second half was exactly the opposite as PC substituted freely and could not get in a rhythm, making just 9-36.
The Fighting Engineers tried to make a game of it, hitting 7 of their first 11 shots to open the second half while the Cobras were making 2 of their first 13 attempts. With the run, Rose-Hulman closed the margin to 13 at 56-43 with 13:06 remaining but the Cobras used a 10-0 spurt Dalten Temples drilled a pair of threes to take the lead back up to 66-43 with just seven minutes to go.

Lowery's 29 helps PC beat Lewis and Clark
The Parkland Cobras men's basketball team finished the month of December a perfect 5 for 5 as they beat Lewis & Clark for the second time this season 77-66 Saturday afternoon in Godfrey, IL.
The Cobras came out and gained control of the game from the start. Strong guard play and offensive execution allowed Parkland to convert high percentage shots from the field, but more importantly, it was the Cobra defense that put Lewis & Clark on their heels. Parkland was able to allow only 24 first half points for the Trailblazers, leading 34-24. The second half would see that lead expand to as many as 18 before the Trailblazers would go on their final run closing it to 5 points late in the second half. That would be the closest the home team would get before Parkland pulled away with free throws, finishing 26-33 for the game from the foul line.

The Cobras still trailed for most of the early part of the second half before they finally got things going at both ends of the court. Defensive stops, leading to transition points, eventually allowed PC to pull away with about five minutes remaining.
Balance was once again the key as six players finished with between 6 and 12 points. Cody McCollum would lead all scorers with 12 points while always dependable Jamel Johnson finished a rebound short of a double-double with 10 and 9 respectively.
