Parkland Signs Class of ‘07

Over the past month, the Parkland College Men’s Basketball team as of right now received eleven commitments from high school seniors for the upcoming season.  Here is a detailed description of each player:

Chris Bohnhoff-(Effingham St. Anthony High School) 5’8” 155 lbs.

Key component to the Class A sectional finalist.  Averaged 15.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, & 3.0 apg. Had over a 2 to 1 assist-to-turnover ratio and made 83 3pt baskets (83/200=41.5%)  Does and excellent job of including teammates and is best in the open court.  Second team IBCA Class A player; will participate as a member of the South Team at the IBCA All-Star game this summer at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Isiah Evans-(Chicago North Lawndale High School) 6’5” 225 lbs.

Tri-Captain of Class A state runner-up, Isiah possesses the skills necessary to dominate the game from the block.  He averaged a double-double during the season: 15.0 ppg. & 12.0 rpg.  “Boss” can guard all positions and is extremely athletic.  He will be asked to contribute immediately for the Cobras.  He is also a second team IBCA Class A player and will also play in the All-Star game as a member of the North Team.

Derek Hazelwood-(Delphi High School in Delphi, IN) 5’7” 160 lbs.

Jet-quick guard out of Central Indiana.  Derek is very good at distributing and running an offense.  He works well in the flow of the game and is a consummate teammate.  Averaged 11.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, & 4.5 apg as a senior.  Derek will provide immediate leadership for what will be a young team.

Lester Hart-(Decatur Eisenhower High School) 6’3” 185 lbs.

Excellent shooter, was part of Super-Sectional finalist who lost to eventual state runner-up, Alton, in the Carbondale Super-Sectional.  Has an excellent perimeter game and skill-set to dominate in both the full & half court contest.  Averaged 11.1 ppg, 2.2 apg, & 3.0 rpg.  Was teammates this past season with two of the top juniors in the ’08 class, Lewis Jackson and Jeremy Robinson.  Also a participant in the Herald & Review All-Star game this past spring.

Antonio Lofton-(Chicago Carver High School) 6’5” 190 lbs.

One of the top players in the Chicago Public League, Antonio will be counted on to continue the progression of athleticism within the program.  Either on the wing or in the post, “Tone” provides toughness and a will to win surpassed by few high school players.  He had averages of 22.1 ppg & 10.3 rpg his high school senior year.  The anticipation for Antonio to be a part of the program is great.

Matt Mierzycki-(Glenbrook South High School) 6’5” 205 lbs.

Very hard-working, athletic wing/post player, Matt does what is necessary to win a contest.  Team captain, MVP, All-Conference and All-Area first team performer for his senior season.  Averaged 16.0 ppg & 7.0 rpg.  Is not scared to put his body on the line and take a charge or lay out for a loose ball.

Cesar Munoz-(Lafayette Jefferson High School in Lafayette, IN) 6’1” 190 lbs.

Tough, hard-nosed basketball player who can heat it up from the perimeter and score in bunches.  Had a season high in points of 37 against Rossville High School.  Was a “Top 100” participant in Indiana as a junior and will be a “Top 40” participant at the Hoosier Basketball Magazine workout in late April.  Averaged 13.5 ppg, 3.5 apg, & 3.0 ppg.  Cesar will provide instant credibility to the backcourt at Parkland.

Cordarell Smith-(Chicago North Lawndale High School) 6’2” 175 lbs.

Another member of the Class A State Runner-Up squad, he was also a tri-captain for the North Lawndale team.  Is a very tough defender who does damage in transition.  Ultra-athletic, “Cory” can give opposing guards fits from baseline to baseline.  Averaged 18.1 ppg, 3.4 rpg, & 3.0 apg.  Came up big in big games, he will be called upon to do the same for the next two years.  Like his teammate, Isiah Evans, he is a second-team IBCA Class A All-State guard and will be a participant for the North Team and play for his high school coach, Lewis Thorpe.

Tydus Townsend-(Proviso East High Schoo) 6’7” 225 lbs.

The main post player on a 4-loss team.  Sectional Finalist in the Lyons Sectional, they dropped their third game of the year to St. Josephs.  “Ty” is very explosive around the rim and has the ability to change a game with his length.  He possesses a soft mid-range touch and can knock down shots from the charity stripe.  Averaged more than 12.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg, & 2.0 bpg.  He will definitely be a key contributor in the low post.

Rashaad Wilson-(Chicago North Lawndale High School) 6’3” 220 lbs.

Rashaad was the third member of the captaincy of the North Lawndale team that took home a second place trophy in this years Class A State Championship.  Has the ability to knock down shots when needed most, “Shawdy” shot over 44% from behind the arc.  Averaged 10.0 ppg, & 4.5 rpg.  He will add much needed depth to the team and will provide much needed strength to the ’07 class.

Rob Winnicki-(Herscher High School) 6’7” 215 lbs.

Rob was part of a two-time Sectional team who upset Chicago Hales Franciscan his junior season.  He is an inside/outside threat who can post strong and step out and hit the perimeter jump shot.  Averaged 16.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 2.1 apg & 2.0 bpg.  Is a second team IBCA All-State player and will team up with both Isiah Evans and Cordarell Smith to play on the North Team this summer.
