GED Testing Information

Who is eligible to take the GED?
An individual who
is 17 years of age or older,
is not a high school graduate or a GED graduate***
has maintained residence in the State of Illinois for thirty days

NOTE: If an individual is of school age and has been enrolled in a public, private, or a home school setting in the last 12 months, they must present a withdrawal letter from the last school enrolled before taking the GED test.

***EXCEPTION: An individual may be eligible to take the GED test at 16 years of age only if they meet the following criteria
has maintained residence for thirty days in the State of Illinois; and
enrolled in an alternative education program under Section 2-3.81, 13A, or 13B of the Illinois School Code; or
enrolled in a youth education program under the Illinois National Guard (I.E., Lincoln's Challenge)

Test dates

You must attend a registration session before taking the GED test.

How to register
Call 217/351-2432 or 217/353-2630 to reserve a seat for the registration session.

EVERY applicant MUST bring the following to the registration session:
Acceptable form of identification that displays the name, address, date of birth, signature, and recent photograph. Acceptable forms of identification are:
**Driver's license
**Valid Passport
**Military ID
**other forms of government-issued, state, national or foreign identification
$35 fee
Residence verification if not included on photo identification includes a signed lease, imprinted checks, or letters with canceled postage.
If you have completed your Constitution Requirement bring the transcript or letter from your high school or an adult basic education agency stating that you took the Constitution test and passed.


How to pay
Cash or check made payable to Parkland College or credit card.

Retest registration
Register at the Assessment Center during regular business hours. You must bring a copy of your previous scores, acceptable identification, and the fee for each test you are retaking.
