How to drop or withdraw from a course
It is the responsibility of the student to withdraw from a course(s). All withdrawals
must be filed with the Office of Admissions and Records no later than one (1)
week prior to the last day of course instruction. Specific dates are published
in the Parkland course catalog and the fall, spring, and summer class schedules.
A degree-seeking student withdrawing completely from Parkland should have an
exit interview with a counselor. Call 217/351-2219 or stop by room A251 to
schedule an appointment.
- Refunds and grade notation for dropping:
Students dropping a full-semester course may be eligible for a refund of tuition if the drop occurs during the first 10 days of instruction. The drop will not appear on the transcript. After the 10th day (or equivalent), the student is not eligible for a refund and is responsible for full payment of tuition (unless unusual circumstances are petitioned). A grade of W will be recorded on the transcript after the 10th day.
- Possible repercussions from withdrawals:
Students are responsible for understanding that course withdrawal may result in loss of financial aid and that not withdrawing properly may result in a grade of F for that course.
- Faculty/administrative withdrawal:
Students who stopped going or never attended a class may be withdrawn from the class by a faculty member or by administrative action until midterm only. A student also may be administratively withdrawn as a result of emergency or disciplinary procedures under the provisions of Board of Trustees policy on student rights and responsibilities.
