Paraprofessional Educator AAS

What you’ll do:
Receive the training you need to become a teaching assistant, providing daily instructional and clerical assistance to early childhood, elementary, and secondary school teachers. Acquire a broad core of knowledge in the physical, mental, and social development of children, including those with special needs, to support a wide range of students in a variety of educational settings. You many also specialize in a focus area of learning such as art, science, or social studies, through elective course work.

Where you’ll go:
Work as a teaching assistant in schools, afterschool and summer programs, and child care centers. Bilingual teaching assistants and those with special education experience are in demand in many school systems. You may advance, with further study and certification, to jobs as an elementary or secondary school teacher; some school districts will offer programs that support such career-ladder transition.
