What you’ll do:
Train to become a licensed Certified Veterinary Technician by completing our exciting two-year program and taking the national board exam. You'll become an integral part of the health delivery team, performing all aspects of veterinary medicine except diagnosing, prescribing, and surgery. You'll study and work with a variety of areas and species of large and small animals.

Parkland College has a training agreement with the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During the second year of the Program, you will rotate through the various service areas at the university's Veterinary Teaching Hospital to see the state-of-the-art methods and techniques in use.

Where you’ll go:
Like human medicine, the technology used to diagnose/treat cases in veterinary medicine  has progressed rapidly in the last few decades. The demand for qualified, highly trained individuals to deliver that care has also increased. The Veterinary Technology program at Parkland  has a national reputation for excellence; our program is rigorous, and employers know our program graduates are well-trained. Most graduates have jobs arranged prior to graduation.

Most graduates find careers in a traditional, companion-animal veterinary clinic setting where the majority of cases involve cats and dogs, although many other career areas are available. Many veterinary practices also see horses and food animals, and thus value the skills a veterinary technologist can offer. Other areas of employment include universities, laboratories, the pharmaceutical industry, and public health.

The Veterinary Technology program at Parkland College is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association's CVTEA.
